Military coatings

A wash primer is a pretreatment product used as an adhesion primer for bare metal surfaces. It is specifically designed to chemically passivate and/or convert metal substrates, thereby promoting the adhesion of subsequent coating layers.

The primer, or “undercoat”, is generally the first coating layer applied to properly prepared surfaces. It provides good adhesion to the entire coating system, delivers active anticorrosive protection and a barrier effect, which are key factors in extending the long-term durability of the coating cycle.

The topcoat is the final layer of a coating system. Its function is to provide resistance to weathering, impart good aesthetic properties, and deliver the required color and gloss level. Where required, it may feature camouflage properties or low solar absorption characteristics, or, in specific cases, resistance to chemical agents (CARC). The topcoat may be water-based or solvent-based, and supplied as a single-component or two-component system.
